Art in Every Space
Second Bloom is a collection of mixed-media artworks that transforms discarded plastic bags into expressive works of art through heat application onto paper and wood panels. Combined with paint, collage, natural elements, and other mixed media, these once-disposable materials are reimagined into richly textured compositions that celebrate renewal, resilience, and beauty.
Plastic bags are among the most common symbols of our disposable culture. In this collection, they are rescued from the waste stream and given a new purpose. Through a process of carefully layering, heat-fusing, cutting, and assembling, their colors, translucency, and unexpected textures become an artistic medium rather than environmental debris.
The title Second Bloom reflects the belief that both materials and ideas deserve another chance. Just as a flower blooms again after a dormant season, discarded objects can be transformed into something meaningful, inspiring, and enduring. Each artwork tells a story of reinvention—where what was once overlooked becomes precious, and what was considered waste becomes a source of wonder.
Working primarily on paper and wood panels, each piece is unique, allowing the organic qualities of the fused plastics to interact with other media in unexpected ways. The process embraces imperfection, inviting chance, texture, and memory into every composition.
At its heart, Second Bloom is an invitation to see the world differently—to recognize beauty in the overlooked, possibility in the discarded, and creativity as a powerful act of environmental stewardship. By giving both materials and ideas a second life, the collection encourages thoughtful consumption while celebrating the endless potential of transformation.
Recycle this Flower
Recycle This Flower is handcrafted from upcycled The Washington Post plastic bags, transformed through a process of hot-pressing and sculpting into a one-of-a-kind botanical form. The bags—printed with the message, "Recycle This Bag"—became both the material and the inspiration, sparking a creative journey of curiosity, experimentation, and discovery.
Reclaimed Couture
Reclaimed Couture is a mixed-media celebration of transformation, where everyday discarded materials are reimagined into something elegant and full of life. Created with hot-pressed plastic bags, gold ribbon, buttons, lace, fabric, and delicate paper butterflies, the piece emerged through a process of discovery rather than a fixed plan—guided by curiosity, intuition, and the beauty of happy accidents.
Leveraging the transparencies, each layer reveals the hidden potential of reclaimed materials, proving that beauty can be found in the unexpected. The butterflies drifting across the figure symbolize renewal, freedom, and the quiet magic of reinvention, while the richly textured gown reflects the harmony that can emerge when imagination meets sustainability.
